Opportunity
The Thetford Trails Team is seeking to raise $100,000 to purchase a key piece of land in the Union Village Dam (UVD) multi-use trail network.
The network is a widely cherished resource in Thetford, offering an exceptional variety of recreational opportunities including running, hiking, biking, hunting, skiing, and more. UVD also features a wide array of natural habitats located within a complex of state, federal, and other protected lands.
The parcel of interest sits at the heart of the network, and we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to purchase and conserve it. Acquisition would facilitate consistent stewardship across the entire trail network, in line with the goals identified in our natural resources inventory, and protect public access for future generations. We plan to secure a conservation easement with the Vermont Land Trust.

This parcel provides three essential services:
- Recreation connectivity: It completes essential connections between the majority of the multi-user trails in the network.
- Ecosystem connectivity: It helps link diverse ecosystems in the Union Village Dam area.
- Landscape-scale connectivity: It provides vital connectivity between Thetford’s highest-priority forest blocks.
How to Participate
The Union Village Dam trail network is a widely used community resource. On any given day, there are walkers, birders, mountain bikers, and swimmers enjoying this special natural area.
It is in that spirit of community and shared investment that we hope you will join us in raising funds to purchase this key parcel. Together, we can secure the long-term sustainability of this natural area and of the multi-use trail network that resides within it.
Thank you for your support!
